1953 FORD CRESTLINE

The Cars
1953 Ford Crestline

Used by Rod on the Endurance Rally Association’s Road to Mandalay rally in 2015, the Ford Crestline journeyed from Singapore to Bagan, Burma, despite making a detour into a ditch!

The Ford Crestline was introduced as the top trim level of the 1952 Ford range, above the intermediate-level Customline and base level Mainline. It was offered in Victoria, Sunliner and Country Squire versions with 2-door hardtop, 2-door convertible and 4-door station wagon body styles respectively. Crestlines were offered only with a 239 cu in (3,920 cm3) ‘flathead’ V8 engine.

After competing in the 2013 Peking to Paris, Rod wanted comfort not speed for the Road to Mandalay event. The temperatures would be high and the climate humid and so the car needed to be able to keep cool both inside and out.
