Rebuild for the Rattler
I am in the middle of a complete revised rebuild of the Rattler especially the special water cooling system. The Rattler Trailer is being rebuilt as well, all new rims and tyres.
My good friend John Benson, who joined me on the O2O Australia adventure, works for Davies Craig, the best water pump and electric cooling water company in the world who has supplied me with a top notch water recirculation pump.
The Australian deserts are engine killers because of the tremendous heat, sometimes nearly 50 degrees Celsius! With the Rattler having a cast iron block and only three US gallons of water for cooling there needs to be better water management than Henry originally provided. The system I have developed has been proven in three Peking to Paris Motor Challenges, numerous crossings of the deserts of Australia as well as across the US East to West nonstop in 50h 20m 6secs and Surfers Paradise Queensland Australia to Freemantle near Perth Western Australia and back non-stop in 101h 52m 32sec 8826k.
Without the water cooling system I have developed the achievements would not have been possible.
One of my support crew, Trevor is prepping the Fuso as well and we have less than five weeks to get everything spot on for the PCFA Fund Raiser rally.
I call the Fuso 4wd my Mini Dakar Truck because it really is a sand hog! Trev, along with another crew member Dan are doing a full service and preparation ready for the PCFA Fund Raiser Rally, going over the vehicle with a fine tooth comb. The Fuso is no newcomer to the desert and has been west to east via the five deserts across Australia and from Tasmania in the south to the tip of Cape York, the furthest northern point of Australia, plus many other off road adventures.
Every crew member that drives this truck just love it and the way it performs.
One of the main issues with desert crossings and steep sand hills is to have superior lubrication of all moving parts. Penrite Oil has been a supplier of lubricants for Vintage Adventurer since 1990.
