Prostate Cancer Rally – Playing catch up!
It’s time to catch up! The rest of the Prostate Cancer Rally teams are leaving Tibooburra to finish up in Innamincka for the day, but we have 997km to travel from Wongawallan to Quilpie in an attempt to meet in Birdsville by Monday.
It was pouring rain, about three inches had fallen, and we needed to fill the Landcruiser with fuel, only 253 litres to top it up and we were on our way. It was as if we had been upgraded from cattle to first class, the cruiser drives smooth.
The new Toowoomba bypass was finished and made the first leg of the trip a pleasure. We stopped at Dalby for a stretch and a 12volt extension lead for the flashing amber light, no fuel required with the long range tank.
The roads were smooth but started to get skinny, over taking the road trains became dangerous but the V8 twin turbo engine did it with a breeze when there was room. We passed through Muckadilla. The saying goes you’re as mad as a muckadilla goat – unfortunately we couldn’t find any goats.
Finally the Vintage Adventurer team made it to their half way point in Quilpie. Another $343 of fuel and a cup of tea at the Quilpie Motel. It’s dinner time but it’s a Sunday night in an outback country town, only one option is the local pub, their short staffed and it’s over an hour wait for a burger and chips.
Good news our fellow team mate Austen is on his way in his personal 79 series Landcruiser. We are back to two vehicles in the Vintage Adventurer convoy.
