Desert Rattler rebuild continues
After finding the ideal car to drive the Desert Rattler, vintage adventurer Rod Wade is continuing to completely rebuild the 1929 Ford Model A Snowmobile ready to take on the sands of five deserts in Australia.
Rod said: “I am enjoying this build more than any I have done thus far because the DR is a real challenge and those that have seen it have said it will never make it…now that is a even more of a challenge on a grand scale!”
Here’s the latest update…
- Next is to strip and rebuild the front end
- Brand new front end parts from Snyders made the front end re-build easier and quick
- Front end rebuild completed
- Clutch housing rebuilt and a Mitchell gearbox attached I am using first gear standard and second 15% up
- The engine is attached to the bell housing and gearbox ready to be lifted into the chassis
- The workshop is cleared out and the chassis made ready for fitment of the components
- The DR is now on all fours and ready for phase 2 of the rebuild
- The DR is now sporting some ‘sand fats’. I will run these from Mt Dare to Birdsville via the Simpson Desert
